Time To Do A MacGyver On My Polytunnel.

Storm Eunice decided to rip the plastic on my polytunnel last night.  Drat and swear words like "flipping heck" and  "for flips sake."

I suppose I have had my money's worth.  It was back in 2013 when I bought it for 500 Euros a man with a Dublin accident I mean accent delivered it (unassembled obviously) and kept saying:

" The instruction are on the web". "If you're not sure.  It's  on the web."

So if it's stops raining and the wind dissipates or disappears.  I will get out the old polytunnel repair tape I bought in Aldi and supervise the missus whilst she attempts to do a MacGyver repair job on "Portugal" by beloved polytunnel pal.

I watched enough episodes of Blue Peter when they showed you how to make your own nuclear power station out of two Ski yoghurt tubs and some sticky back plastic or " Cellotape".   I'm a bit of a tight wad and if I could get a bit longer out of the old plastic polytunnel cover.

Any one know how much a new cover for a three hooped polytunnel is? It's  only had one cover and that was when I sang "I Just Can't Help Believing" by Elvis Presley to my plants.

"Elvis has left the polytunnel."

  1. If you bought it in 2013 I doubt the quality of one bought today would be as good. best patch it up I think. My little garden shed lifted off its base and plopped back down this morning its so windy here in Brighton.

  2. Sorry to hear that Portugal is broken. I hope Mrs Northsider is able to fix it for you. You could do the hoovering for her.

  3. Its ripped even more since I the photo this morning Briony. The rest of the plastic is still protecting the plants in the polytunnel. I will wait a few weeks before I dig up the buried plastic and buy a new cover. Hope your shed is ok?

  4. It's even worse now JayCee and past the point of repair. I will gladly Hoover up if she digs the polytunnel cover trenches for me. It sounds like a fair deal all round.

  5. Sorry about the polytunnel - if it makes you feel better, look at the photos of the O2 'dome' this afternoon. It, too, got in the way of the wind.
92mph recorded at the Mid Channel Rock Lighthouse Beacon off St Ann's Head in Pembrokeshire, and it felt like it overhead in my garden too. Not going out to check for damage yet though, still too windy!

  6. Flipping heck. Just watched a video of the 02 roof. We've had worse storms here but its blown over a lot of trees in Ireland. Suppose the ground is too wet for the roots to hold? Take care and thanks!

  7. Poor Dave! Though you are bravely trying to make light of this horticultural disaster, I can sense the sorrow welling up between the lines. Do you think you might need some counselling?

  8. Hi. The wind shredded one of our polytunnels today, it was one of those fitted, reinforced plasti covers, which are far too expensive to replace. so it will be a 'heath Robinson' recovering job this time. we were too busy holding down the barn roof,to try and rescue the polytunnel.
    Hope for lighter winds ,
    Kathy

  9. To misquote the great Mr Robert Marley:

  11. I know my plastic friend and office. Thinking of moving it next to my bamboo hedge. JayCee is very funny. Hell hath no fury on a woman's need for Hoovering.
