H is For Hackett.

Continuing with my A to Z of some of my favourite Rock bands.  This week H is for Hackett or Steve Hackett to be precise.

I have been a big fan of his since I was a teenager.

Apparently he phoned a phone number for a Prog Rock band requiring a guitarist in Melody Maker.  A certain Peter Gabriel picked up the receiver and answered  the call and they arranged for an audition with his band and Steve passed with flying colours and joined a Prog Rock band named after the first book in the Bible or Genesis to be precise!

I finally got to see Steve at Cropredy last August.  A week later I saw his brother John and his band at a New Day Festival in Kent.

  2. Thanks JayCee. It helps if you are a bit obsessed with your favourite subjects. Your becoming something of a Manx local history expert.

  3. A very well-rehearsed version of "Every Day". I enjoyed it. With a name like "Hackett" he would be well-advised to keep some Locketts in his pocket and carry some tissues too.

  5. Melody Maker was great. I ordered an album from the new Virgin Records which was a 16 year old Richard Branson. I filled in a coupon and sent a postal order.

  6. Great music memories Rachel I use to read Sounds and NME. They were the social media before the Internet. Imagine ringing a phone number and you can audition in a Rock Royal family of a band.

  7. Steve Howe is another good candidate for 'H'. You really have quite a pool of talent over in your neck of the woods.
