Still Making Cuttings With The Glass Of Water Method.

There is not much gardening I can do at the moment except for potting on and watering and weeding the newly rooted cuttings in the polytunnel and that's not every day.

However there is the kitchen window allotment.  This consists of small glasses full of water containing cuttings.  Here's the latest success:

You can see roots forming on the 'Touch Me Nots" or New Guinea Impatiens.  These are house plants and originated in the Solomon islands.  Now it's living on the Sheeps Shed Peninsula in the Southwest of Ireland

You just get a pair of scissors and cut yourself a cutting.   Remove most of the leaves and pop it in a glass of water.

I have got 13 'Wandering Jew' plants growing in compost that I rooted by using the glass of water method.  Go on have a go.

  2. I have lots of luck/success with softwood cuttings Briony. They root very easy in a glass of water and seem to like the heat from the solid fuel range in the kitchen. Good luck.

  3. I've done this lots of times but never with hydrangea until you mentioned it a little while ago. I now have some that have rooted in their little jars, so thanks for suggesting that!

Not much gardening here at the moment due to the same weather front you are getting.

  9. Hi JayCee. Yes it's good to see house plants rooting in glasses of water on the kitchen window sill. Sounds like we're in for a rough night you and me living next to the sea.

  10. "Wandering Jew"? That plant name seems politically incorrect to me. How would you like it if there was a plant called "Confessing Catholic"?

  11. Tradescantia, inch plant, wandering dude, spiderwort. All names for the plant YP. If there was one called the Reclusive Christian it wouldn't bother me.

    1. A Reclusive Christian would be highly toxic with spiky leaves.

    1. There could be plants named after every religion - The Blossoming Buddhist, The Variegated Muslim Pansy and The Mormon Cabbage Plant for example.

  14. I also my buddies have just been assessing the magnificent supportive clues from the site then quickly I had an awful doubt I had not expressed gratitude toward the site proprietor for those mysteries. Those men had been hence happy to become familiar with every one of them and have without a doubt been cherishing these things. Much obliged to you for getting exceptionally supportive and afterward for choosing assortments of amazing thoughts a large number of people are truly urgent to know about. My earnest lament for not communicating gratefulness to you sooner.
