We went car booting again this morning and this is what we bought:
The Irish RM printed by Faber and Faber in 1928. I paid 50 Cents for it. I Googled the book on a book website and I saw a similar book for 27 Euros. Sommerville and Ross lived in Castletownsend in West Cork not very far from me.Stella Gibson's Art Deco circa 1924. I paid ten Euros and they go for 25 Euros/Pounds upwards. There are no tannins stain in the teapot. So I would surmise that it was never used for tea and it was kept in an old lady's China cabinet.
Quite a productive morning. Perhaps Channel 4 would like to film us in their next 'Hoarders' series? 😊
A good haul there, Dave. I like the elephants. Will you need to build an extension to house all your treasures?
ReplyDeleteThey're great aren't they JayCee? We have more than one dwelling so we still can cram more treasure in. I love collecting stuff. I would like an hone like yours and fill it with our finds.
ReplyDeleteAn home like yours even!
ReplyDeleteI would like to think of you dealing on-line and making some money from some of your treasures Dave. Since doing my antiques and collectables course I have become quite interested in people buying and selling on line and having specialities. It seemed like an interesting way of turning a few cents and euros into more cents and euros.
ReplyDeleteYour antiques and collecting course sounds really interesting Rachel. You should go round carboot sales, charity shops and flea markets and see what you find. I just collect and seen countless antique television programmes. It never ceases to amaze me how such fragile items can survive so long. Perhaps I should of been a Jackdaw?😊
ReplyDeleteThere are so many amazing things to collect and you never know what you are going to find.
DeleteSo true Rachel. We walked around the stalls at least four times today and saw something new every time. It's a great hobby along with all my other ones.
ReplyDeleteSome real treasures there. Lovely bookends.
ReplyDeleteHope you've still got room for more treasures cos I can see there'll be more for sure. At least your treasures are asthetically pleasing. Our old washing machines are not
Hi Linda. Glad you like the Elephant bookends. I would say they are African hardwood. There is a lawnmower museum in Southport in Lancashire or Merseyside these days. So why not have a washing machine museum in Poros?😊
ReplyDeleteOh you lucky lucky things, lol.
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
I know Briony. After two years of Covid restrictions and lockdowns it feels amazing to get about, talk to people and search for treasure. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour treasures are the complete opposite to mine - I rarely buy anything that needs dusting!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue. Where we keep them there is only a radiator so there is very little dust. Hopefully we will be going to another car boot sale tomorrow before it rains all week. April showers....
ReplyDeleteThat was a worthwhile shopping expedition now please excuse me, it is time to watch "Bag A Carboot Bargain" on Channel 4 with that annoying Irish couple. I forget their names.
ReplyDeleteMalachi and Colleen tiz our names. Would ye be looking for any bargains Mr Pudding? I have a tin of tartan paint on special offer. What's ye best offer?
ReplyDeleteMy hand in marriage and a honeymoon trip to The Maldives.
DeleteHoho tartan paint. We know a small boy with some toy soldiers in kilts that need painting. His grandfather has convinced him that the job would be a quick one if he gets some of that tartan paint. How does one disabuse him without destroying the god-like status of 'Pops'?
DeletePS we like your teapot.
DeleteGlad you like the teapot Tigger and you have a great sense of humour.
DeleteOr maybe a bucket of steam or a left handed screwdriver YP?
DeleteHOARDERS? No! Not so! Hoarders collect useless things of no value. You and Mrs. Northsider have a keen eye for antiques and value! You both are COLLECTORS.
ReplyDeleteBig difference.
Glad to help.
Yep Debby. Got the T shirt, read the book. You can't walk past a bargain. Especially if it's beautiful like the Oriental pottery and the English Staffordshire teapot and the African book ends. I feel like a hunter. Great mornings collecting.
