Yet Another New Potatoes Treasure Post.

We dug all the Charlotte new potatoes yesterday from the second hand potato growing  bags that we bought at a carboot a few months ago.  Once again it shows that you do not need to have a garden or veg plot to grow vegetables.

The Hellmann's Mayonnaise bucket is three quarters full.

The colander runneth over after the potatoes were given a bath and a scrub.

I read today that you can freeze new potatoes if you get a glut.  Have you ever frozen new spudatoes?

Charlotte is a delicious new potato and it's good to have your own homegrown and chemical free new potatoes.

  1. That's interesting. I didn't know you could freeze raw potatoes. Do you have to blanch them first?

  2. Yes you blanch them first JayCee. I think we will be eating them every day this week. Charlotte are gorgeous. At least we are not saying "It's too hot for new potatoes" and the classic English saying: "Is it hot or is it me?"😊

  3. Frozen spuds aren't great. Better to keep them in the fridge as long as you can and eat them fresh till you are thoroughly sick of them (as if anyone could ever be thoroughly sick of new spuds!)

  4. Good advice Tigger. It's when it gets too hot you don't want them. Not the case this year.

  5. Just keep eating them through the week and keep them in the dark and cool,. You can always boil more than you need and then fry them with tomatoes and a fried egg and fried bread. That looks like a great crop.

  7. You have not got a potato famine now! I must say that I have never heard of freezing new potatoes though it can get cold in Yorkshire during the picking season.

  8. Potatoes originate in the Andes in Peru but they grow very well in Ireland and Blighty YP. You can freeze most vegetables if you get a glut of them. I must set some in the potato growing bags in September in the polytunnel so we have new potatoes around or at Christmas even. Thanks.

  11. It is a good name like YP. Perhaps I/we could write posts about a fictional smallholder called Spud Tightwad?

  12. Thanks Linda. Irish potato cakes with bacon are scrumptious. Why don't restaurants and pubs over here just serve the brilliant food that their grandparents made?
