Our First Harvested Leek Of The Year!

                                                      Vegetable  garden art.

I lifted our first leek on Sunday morning with my trusty garden fork.

This particular specimen like most of our vegetables I grew from seed and planted in a cut down IBC tank filled with topsoil and well rotted fym.

Seeing that it is soup season down here on the Irish Riviera.  We decided to make a pan of leek and potato soup for our din dins:

Yep. Another soup post!

Home grown and home made Leek and Potato soup.

Lovely!

  1. There's more to life than soup you know Mr Northsider! For example, there's... err... stew!

  2. Looks delish. I am on a restricted diet at the moment - can't wait to start eating proper food again! Leek and potato soup will be on my list.

  4. Leek and potato soup used to be a favourite . Now I eat the leeks but avoid potatoes, even those wonderful fresh ones you dig from your garden. I'll eat the butter and leave you the potatoes! But I still love and eat leeks

  5. It's definitely a favourite of ours Linda. Leeks cook really quickly in butter in the microwave for two to three minutes until they are soft. I love all the Allium family. They are very good for you.

  6. Leek and potato soup is one of my favourites. It must taste all the more delicious, for the veggies being home grown. Xx

  7. It is also one of my favourite soups Jules. You can't source organic vegetables like the freshly picked ones at home. Thanks!

  9. Thanks Marlene. Like the rest of the Allium family they like lots of fym. Alliums also like wood ash. Its full of Potash. Fresh baked bread and this soup is just the ticket.
