Digging Over This Years Potato Plot.

The rain gods finally left us for a while on Thursday.  So I got out my trusty gardening tools and set to work on this years proposed new potatoes plot.  It was pretty overgrown but there is life in the old dog yet.  Here's some pictures for your perusal:

Two lazy Azada hoes.  The one on the left is my Crocodile Azada made by Chillington hoes.  I have had it for over ten years.  The one on the right was made in 2013 by number 1 son.  Just type Azada in my blog search.  It cost nothing and still works brilliantly.  If you're taking on an overgrown allotment, they are the perfect tool for the job.

Tools used included  one shovel, two Azadas,  a four prong pike, one spade, tub to put weeds in.

All weeded and forked over and ready for me to dig trenches, add fym, plant spuds spread seaweed around Paddy's Day.

Have you started on your veg plot yet?  My next job is to collect seaweed.

  1. My next job is to pay for a young fellow to fly over from South West Ireland to Yorkshire - dig over our vegetable plot and then fly home again. Two days should do it.

  3. 57? You mean like the Heinz varieties? I might start calling you Heinz after Heinz Burt or would that be disrespectful?

  4. Well I have got, English, Irish, Yorkshire and Welsh ancestors. So Heinz is probably a good name. I love their baked beans. Much better when you go in a discount supermarket and pay 27 Pence for El Crappo baked beans and put a 32 inch plasma colour television in your trolley from the central aisle for three hundred quid. I've been called much worse YP.😊

    1. I must be more than a Heinz 57, given all the different mix of blood flowing through my veins!
Not keen on baked beans though.

  5. Not keen on baked beans JayCee? I love them. I think a lot of us have mixed blood. Nice again today. Thanks.

  6. We have a patch that is more stones than soil - the only thing that loosens it is a pick axe - but maybe one of those hoes would do the job too? I shall investigate.

  7. Raised beds the bike shed? If you can't go down you go up. I have read about people in the Arran Isles growing potatoes in seaweed on rocky plots.

    1. Hi Linda. Yes it's good to look at your work after a few hours weeding and digging over the soil. Next job is to collect seaweed and spread it.

  10. Brr.. Snow thank you Debby. Woke up to an heavy frost this morning. Hopefully it will make nice friable soil and kill off anything nasty. Only trouble is rain always follows the frost. Keep warm.
