Winter Views From The Northside.

Went for another walk this morning over the hills, tracks and boreens of our peninsula in the Southwest of Ireland: West Cork.

According to my mobile phone I did 12667 steps.

Today I decided I wasn't walking along the main roads and avoiding traffic.  I met a few walkers harmed with all the right walking equipment and of course their "trusty" hiking sticks.   I also met a man walking his dog along one of my favourite boreens.  All of them said: "Hello".

I stopped at one point and took two photographs for my blog:

The remaining snow on the Sheepshead Way overlooking Bantry Bay and Hungry Hill.

Another disappearing snow scene of the Northside and Bantry Bay and Beara  Peninsula.

Hope you enjoyed my walk?

  1. Had to look up boreen. What a lovely word, and a lovely walk. What sort of hiking stick do you use?

  2. Nice to see a snowy landscape. Isn't it hard to walk on?

  3. Hi the Veg Artist. Yes it is a lovely word. A rural single lane with grass growing up the middle. It's a telescopic hiking stick with a leather loop. It's good for going up hills and stopped me from slipping and falling many a time.

Did you watch Darcey Bussel's Wild Coasts Of Scotland on More 4 the other night? The scenery reminded me of here. I love Darcey. She dances like an Elf and her personality is lovely. Thanks.

  4. Hi LA. It was strange seeing my footprints again in the snow and a few animal footprints. I didn't slip once in the melting sleet snow. I wouldn't go walking without my stick though. Hope you're all OK on Poros?

  5. It's a cool word isn't it Debby? I read somewhere that Bo is Irish fo a cow and reen means lane: Boreen. Brian Boru introduced a cow tax: Bo for cow and ru for tax. It's an education when you pop over here!😊

  7. Just the usual swing from side to side they count YP. It felt strange seeing my footprints in the snow today. Uncannily I was walking the same footsteps. You can see how Hungry Hill got it's name. Thanks.

  8. I feel cold just looking at those photos! It was showing minus 4 here on our garden thermometer when we got up this morning, but it soon soared to zero later on.

  9. Hi JayCee. There was a wind chill but I was wearing a neck scarf that covers most of my face. It's like a mask and only cost 2 Euros from Geek. I think gloves, woolly hat and a good fleece help too. It was a nice morning and it was good to see other people walking.
