Newly Hatched Hen Chicks.

We bought an electric egg incubator about a month ago.  Number one son bought some fertilised eggs for ten Bob (50 Cents) each.

On Sunday they started hatching and making chirpy cheep cheep noises.

Up to now we have eight newly hatched hen chick's.  They are beautiful.  Old Mother Nature played a blinder yet again.

Two day old hen chick's.

Sorry it's took on it's side.

Newly hatched and very chatty

Have you ever hatched hens or ducks?  What did you feed your day old chick's?

Tiger Kitty is trying her best to catch the new chick's on their heat pad in the cupboard next to the range. The oil range isn't warm not for a while yet.

Have you thought about lighting your fire in the front room yet?  We are leaving it for a bit longer and saving the wood.

  2. Pooh that reminds me of my Dad. He often had chicks in a corner of the shop window under a special lamp. They were chirpy cheepy things. We always had chooks. I don't like the older kind but those chicks drew a lot of attention, and business

  4. We are putting off lighting the front room stove for a while yet. I have nearly a shed full of timber and we probably by some turf. Coal gives the heat but it's far too expensive this year. We will have to put on a coat or another jumper.

  5. As your son bought the eggs, the multiple births make you a grandfather Dave. Congratulations! You will have to bounce them on your knee and read them fairy stories.

  6. We have central heat, but we tend to use very efficient gas stoves, along with the wood stove, so that we can avoid heating the whole house, and just heat the room we are in. It is starting to get noticeably cooler here. Of course. Because I just rolled up the livingroom carpet and took it outside to power wash it for the winter.

  7. Yes it's getting cooler here too Debby. We have oil central heating but rely mainly on the multi fuel stove in the front room. Not for a few weeks yet though.

  8. Someone took a box of day-old chicks to our daughter's pre-school one morning. All the parents noticeably lingered around much longer than usual, me included.

  10. I have been lighting the woodburner since I got back from Albania. My mother used to rear chickens for the Christmas market and the chicks arrived by train and we picked them up from the station in boxes all cheeping.
