Wild Camping, Homeless Or Did The Campsite only Permit Contactless Payments?

I will continue with my Oxford photos tomorrow.

A few days later.  We had arrived in Canterbury.  I noticed people sleeping on wooden pallets in shop doorways and tents pitched in graveyards.

Wasn't it The Clash who penned the Punk classic:  "This is England"?

See the tents in the background? Hopefully they were just people on holiday and not homeless people?

At least when there was the Draconian workhouses people had a roof over their head.  England seems to be a nation of haves and have nots.  Or that's how it appeared to me.

  1. Twelve years of Tory rule. They have never cared a fig for ordinary people. When they came into office The NHS was in good shape but stealthily and deliberately they have brought it to its knees and Johnson talked of "Levelling Up" but it was just a cruel joke. England, my England - what have they done to you?

  2. The homeless crisis in England always disturbs me when I visit England YP. A housing political party would be a party worth voting for.

  3. Here, as well. When there is a program to benefit the 'haves' there is no discussion. When there is a program to benefit the 'have-nots' there is always an uproar, and it always comes down to 'let them work harder'. It's sickening really, isn't it.

    1. It is sickening Debby. There is no place like home and everyone needs a roof over their head. Especially now winter is on its way .

  5. We went past Manston Airport through Ramsgate and on to Broadstairs. I remember you telling us about you climbing on the Spitfires and Hurricanes. I like Kent very much but it's got its problems. Good to hear from you Deb.

  8. One of our oldest and most traditional pubs here no longer takes cash. The young put up with it.

  9. They probably have cards. Myself and a lot of older people see nothing wrong with cash.
