Bratkartoffeln (German Fried Bacon And Potatoes).


we tried this German dish when we visited A German cafe/bar in Tenerife in December.
It's what us ordinary folk would call fried bacon and potatoes 🥔. 
Sliced potatoes like the bacon hotpot my dear old mother use to make us.
Diced ham in a packet from Lidl.

So we decided today to have a go at making our own taste of Berlin grub.
 
Our homemade version which looked and tasted like the meal we had in Tenerife.

  7. Very simple and just using basic ingredients you can rustle up a quick meal that's tasty and not expensive to make Linda. The packet of diced ham is a great idea. If you buy vegetables in Mark's and Spencer's you can get them ready washed and chopped.

  8. When I lived in Denmark we had a version of that the locals called Biksimad (Monday food - because it was made of the left over potatoes and roast meat - usually pork - from Sunday). They put a fried egg on top of theirs. Enjoy.

  9. Biksimad sounds different Tigger's Mum. I find German food very simple and tasteful like traditional Irish and UK dishes. Perhaps it we come from colder countries or we all champion the potato, bacon and onions...?

  10. I haven't had fried potatoes in ages, what we Aussies would call "yonks". Not even last winter! But I did eat some really delicious warm potato salad that had bacon in it at Christmas lunch.
    What did you fry the potatoes in? Oil? the drippings off the bacon? It looks so yum!

  11. Hi River. We also say "yonks" which means years, months and weeks. We boiled the potatoes the night before then next day peeled, sliced and cooked them in oil. Give it a go.
