Only a bit of fun.
Every time we go in a a Chinese takeaway we always end up with a complimentary free plastic bag full of prawn crackers:
I have a theory that the owners of these establishment are constantly refurbishing their takeaway kitchens.
They decide that the cheapest way of getting rid of the polystyrene/styrofoam ceiling tiles is to break them into small pieces and give them away free to the customers instead of paying and sending them to landfill.
That's my theory anyway. Don't tell me you like them. Do you?😊
What's your favourite Oriental meal? Mine's Amber Fire Beef. It's a Korean dish and very hot!
Prawn crackers... whenever I have tried them they tend to leave a horrible oily film around the inside of my mouth.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy crispy roast duck though from our local takeaway.
You describe them perfectly JayCee. They taste like they are made of styrofoam or polystyrene. Roast duck sounds rather splendid. The daftest thing I ordered in a Chinese takeaway was Beans and Sprouts soup. It should have been Beansprouts soup.😊
ReplyDeleteNow beans and sprouts soup sounds like something I should try to make... or perhaps not.
DeleteI think we would have the ingredients for a very flatulent evening.😊
ReplyDeleteTrouble with prawn crackers is they don't taste of anything - they are a texture experience, a way of scooping up chili sauce or something. It's so long sine i found a decent Oriental meal I'd settle for anything, but a good Dim Sum lunch might be appreciated most.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Tigger. If you don't ask you don't know. Makes perfect sense.
DeleteI love the free prawn crackers. Favourite Chinese dish has to be chicken chow mein but only from "The New Hing Lung" on Abbeydale Road. Usually ordered with chicken foo yung, chicken chop suey, sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. I could do with that right now!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me hungry YP.
Delete"Hing Lung" means "stuff your face".
DeleteWhy not!
DeleteBibimbap. We do not have any Korean restaurants in our corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteGoogle amber fire beef recipe Debby. I love it.
ReplyDeletethe birds truly love them
ReplyDeleteNo Chinese. No prawn crackers. If I could have a Chinese meal my first request would be spring rolls but there's so much more. Delicious cuisine
ReplyDeleteMake your own Asian food Linda. We often make amber fire beef.
DeleteThey are welcome to mine.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that I even know what prawn crackers are. The description sounds like the small crispy things they place in bowls on the tables, kind of like Mexican restaurants place baskets of tortilla chips. My favorite thing at Chinese restaurants is Shrimp Rangoon, but that's an appetizer and not the meal. I almost always order beef and broccoli.
ReplyDeleteYou are not missing anything Lisa. They are like polystyrene pieces used in packaging.
