Beer Adverts.

I have been looking at beer adverts on good old You Tube and there are some really clever and amusing ones.  So instead of being a one horse pony and writing about flora and veggies every post I'm going to throw in or post an odd old video for our perusal.  Maybe my blog pals will post some themselves?

Here's one to take our minds off the wind and relentless rain.  Enjoy:

    1. Thanks Marlene. A Sloane Ranger drinks Heineken and starts talking like Eliza Doolittle. Brilliant.

  2. What year was that ad. from David? I will guess at 1978.

  3. I was wondering when that ad was screened Dave so I did a little research. It was from 1985 and it was for cinema screening only. The actress was called Sylvestra LeTouzel. She is now 66 years old.

  4. 1985 YP. When posh middle class young ladies dressed informally like Lady Di, drove Chelsea tractors (Range Rovers) and believed that greed was good. Have you ever seen Pygmalion? I have only seen My Fair Lady. Professor Higgins fascinated me.

    1. I have read "Pygmalion" and taught it as a set text but I have never seen it in performance. It was a great idea that Shaw hit upon.

    2. Yes it was. He wrote St Joan in Glengarriff and stayed at the Eccles Hotel.

  5. Yes I did the same research. Good old Google.

  6. It doesn't make it taste any better though. Plus, anything in a can just tastes of aluminium.

    1. As you know, I am a big fan of Tetleys bitter and have invested thousands of pounds in the company over the years. I must have a look at some of their old ads...
      "Tetleys Bittermen... Join 'Em!"

  9. Yes they were great. I think beer adverts would make a good topic for a television programme on a Saturday Night YP? I discovered there's an Australian Repair Shop now!

  11. Who's that GZ? I am not very knowledgeable about famous cyclists. What do you think about electric bikes? I have been thinking of getting one.

Electric bikes are a great idea..you could get a cargo bike for carrying things to and from a car boot or market..middle son's partner has one that pulls a trailer as well...with balance bikes on, as she teaches kids...and adults..how to ride bikes.
Just make sure you don't get a bike that weighs a ton!

    2. Thanks for the cyclist and cycling update GZ. I will look up cargo bikes. A great mode of transport for organic gardeners me thinks. I have wrote some posts on here about Greenways in Kerry and Limerick. They are repurposed railway lines that have had the train tracks lifted and replaced by tarmac for cyclists and walkers to use. An electric bike would be brilliant to explore them.

    3. If you type Greenway in my blog search GZ you will see my posts on the greenways in Ireland. They are brilliant.

    4. Makes you wish that they would reinstate the railways...and have a bike route next to them!! They certainly look easy riding..I hope that they are well used

    5. Doesn't it just GZ? A electric bus going say five miles an hour would be a great way to travel the Greenways especially for elderly and disabled and passengers who don't wish to cycle or walk. The routes travel through countryside and towns and villages. There's plenty of green spaces for potential campsites and railway stations could be made into bunkhouses. It's a safe way of riding your bike and walking away from cars and lorries.

    6. My wife bought an electric bike so she could get up the hills around here - I could but she couldn't. We're talking leisurely bike rides, not athletics. It does weigh a ton but she is delighted with it.
